Fascia and Soffit Damage: What It May Mean and What Repair Costs

The distinction decides who you call. If the fascia is soft along the whole length of a gutter run and the roof edge above is otherwise sound, the cause is drainage and the fix is gutters, boards and possibly a drip edge. If the damage is concentrated below a dormer, a chimney or the end of a sidewall, the cause is a flashing on the roof and the boards will rot again unless it is fixed first. If soffit panels are stained in a line along a whole side, look at the attic for condensation or a leak that has run to the eave. A roofer can usually tell from the pattern in a single visit.
